Heather + Randall {Hudsonville, MI Barefoot Wedding Photographer}

This wedding guys. I just can’t even. I have been sitting with the blog post ready unable to really come up with the right words to describe this day or Heather and Randall properly. So instead I will tell you a story. I decided to go full-time photographer back in April (can’t believe it was only that long ago…) but Heather and I were working together at the Humane Society and in February she asked me about wedding photography. I had only primary shot one wedding on my own and done ZILLIONS of second shooting jobs but i knew that I was going to go full time and weddings were going to be my thing, and that my experience as a second shooter had me prepared to do this so I signed them up. Immediately we clicked. Heather and Randall are MY KIND OF COUPLE.

Down to earth, compassionate, intelligent, respectful and amazingly fun people. As they started describing their perfect day I knew they were EXACTLY the kind of couple I wanted to tell stories about. Their love story is so inspiring I get tears in my eyes every time I think about them. Their barefoot August wedding in Hudsonville was just amazing. I spent so much time with them before (and still after this!) and it still seems like not enough. They are so in love it is so contagious it just makes you want to give out a lot of hugs. Their wedding was put together by friends and family, I even helped do their flower arrangements (a huge love of mine and former occupation!) in a backyard that was just amazing. The whole day was fantastic. Still the best food I have EVER had at a wedding (umm Chinese food at a wedding? YES PLEASE!) and some amazing cupcakes by another friend.

While I booked them as my ‘first’ wedding of 2014 I did six other weddings alone before them which really helped me get things down. Their wedding party have become some of my best friends and I just couldn’t imagine where I would be today without their support. Thank you Heather and Randall for believing in me and letting me capture how amazing this day was. You two are my favorites and I cannot wait for the next leg of your journey (they just asked me to help announce they are PREGNANT!  I am so excited for them..they are the best dog/cat parents I know they will make amazing human parents as well). I LOVE YOU TWO SO MUCH <3 Cheers to many more years of capturing memories with you guys!

2014 – A Year in Review!

Holy cow 2014 how you flew by, and rocked my face off.

It has been an AMAZING year. I have been able to do what I love and work my booty off telling these stories. 2014 marked the start of my professional photographer title and was one of the hardest years of my life! Starting a business is daunting but also really exciting. Having played with a camera for years now it was time and it was right! I have never felt better working so hard. I really never thought this was where I would be at the end of the year and that is an amazing thing. I stuck to my early goals and achieved more than I ever thought I could. ROCK ON 2014!!!

But honestly, It is all thanks to you guys (and gals!). I couldn’t have done any of this without my amazing clients, my friends referrals and my extremely supportive family. You all are amazing and made this year truly remarkable. I can’t thank all of the couples who trusted me to capture the start of their new lives together, you are MAGICAL! I have loved capturing every moment of your story and look forward to telling more stories to come.

 I also have to thank all my fellow photographers, without your advice, referrals and second shooting opportunities I wouldn’t be where I am. Specifically I need to thank Abbey Moore for letting me tag along and second shoot with her this year. I learned more in those few days then in my entire photography background (some images shot from her weddings are in this post. a post about second shooting for her to come!). I also need to thank Sydney Marie and Sydney & Destiny weddings for having me on to second and always being awesome gals and Amanda of Westshore Photography for letting me also co-shoot a wedding with her. Lastly I need to thank Megan Saul for welcoming me to the Chicago area and making me feel fantastic in this big city, you are amazing and inspiring along with the whole HH crew <3. A huge shout out also goes to all of my second shooters who blew me away this year with their kindness, talent and hard-work. You all ROCK and will do amazing things I know it!

I am so pumped for 2015. My couples are amazing, I can’t wait to do more seniors and I have so many personal projects/volunteer projects planned as well. I will be spending more time traveling than I ever have and much more time at my second home in Chicago. Big things are happening and I know 2015 will be amazing. Thank you all for your awesome support, I can’t wait to make more magic with you this year!

Jessi + Cody {Spring Lake Country Club Wedding Photographer}

I am so thankful to have last minute been able to help with this gorgeous wedding this fall in Spring Lake. Amanda of Westshore Photography asked if I would second shoot with her and I jumped right up and said yes! My only caveat was that I would get to do some posing and some of my GIF work 🙂 Well it totally worked out that’s for sure! Not only did I have a great time but I think I helped Amanda a lot too during the day. Being a lone wolf can be hard (trust me I know!) so having someone to help you out is great. I normally work alone but LOVE when my clients choose to have a second shooter along with.

Amanda was so fun and I would work with her again in a heartbeat! I even got to do my own ring shots and bridal portraits. And its way more fun at the reception to capture more of whats going on! Spring Lake Country Club was a beautiful location to have both the ceremony and reception. The fall decor and lighting really were great with their theme and the outdoor locations are fun too!

how i give back

BSBC copyRecently I became apart of an amazing group of wedding vendors called Black Sheep Bride. This list of vendors across the USA all are required to give back a certain portion of their yearly income to non-profits. The whole idea is something I immediately fell in love with. Before going full-time photographer I worked for a non-profit and always have been volunteering since I can remember. Giving back is not only awesome for your community but also makes you feel really great too. It is no secret weddings are expensive. So the idea to spend some of that money on items/companies that give back can really do a lot of good. DO IT. If you are a socially conscious couple check out this site for those vendors you should fall for. While they are listed ‘by state {and according to insider info this will change!! i will share more again about this}’ many of them are online and do business all over the country! So don’t sell yourself short by only clicking on a few in your state (to my Mitten peeps you will notice it is just me and a few other awesome GR photographers so OTHER vendors GET ON THAT!!! ..and to my Chicago peeps yah I am not listed under Illinois but I promise I give back there too).

You can check out my vendor profile to see some of the ways I give back. I also apparently FORGOT to add in a huge part of the way I give back. Which is through doing Senior Pet Portraits for free in the areas I work in. My pets are like my children and they live such short lives its so important to me to document your special bond as a memory you will always have to cherish. This is probably my FAVORITE way to give back and something I am super passionate about.
